| M2 Tasting |
The Dallas Secret Wine Society’s very own staff member,
Dandridge, was our host for this fantastic line up of California
red wines from the Boutique Winery, M2. The event was
held at a room in the Apartment Clubhouse of the Amli at
Bishop’s Gate in Plano and we may hold some future events
there as well. M2 focuses their attention on making four
different styles of wines, all of them red. A blend called Dos
Arkies (Both winemakers are from Arkansas), an Old Vine
Zinfandel (grapes from Lodi), a Cabernet Sauvignon (grapes
from Rutherford/Oakville, Napa) & a Syrah. The vintage
highlighted in our tasting was their current offering, the 2004
vintage. Just for fun, Dandridge brought along the 2003 Old
Vine Zinfandel and the 2003 Syrah to compare to the 2004
versions.
As a special treat, Dandridge brought two other wines also
made by one of the winemakers from M2. Both were under
the Consortium Label name. A Cabernet Sauvignon & a
Syrah. The M2 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel, the Consortium
2004 Cabernet Sauvignon and the Consortium 2004 Syrah
were all entered in the Southern California Wine Competition
held in Orange County. Out of over 700 wines entered, the
2004 Consortium Cabernet Sauvignon took home a double
gold medal and best of show honors. The M2 2004 Old Vine
Zinfandel took home the silver in its class and the 2004
Consortium Syrah took the bronze in its class. Pretty neat
stuff! Everyone was disappointed to find out that the
Consortium wines were not for sale. In fact, they had only
made one barrel of each, the Cab and the Syrah.
Of course the M2 wines were incredible and if I had to pick a
favorite, the 2004 Old Vine Zinfandel stole my heart and
seemed to be a lot of other people’s favorite wine too. But
they all were great.
The prices for these M2 wines are:
2004 Dos Arkies (a red wine blend) $18.00 per bottle
2004 Old Vine Zinfandel $22.00 per bottle
2004 Syrah $25.00 per bottle
2004 Clone Six Cabernet Sauvignon $50.00
