The Mediterranean Food & Wine Festival
Well despite the fact there was no water
anywhere in sight, we chose to pretend that
we were somewhere in the middle of the
Mediterranean for the evening.  With wine
and food from all over the area, we had
many dishes that came from either Spain,
Italy, Greece & Southern France and wines
from the same countries as well.  Speaking
of the food, there was so many good things
to eat that it was almost impossible to try
them all.  From what I remember we had
ravioli and tortellini, pesto & cheese, baby
lamb chops with feta sauce, chocolate
hazelnut ravioli, dolmades, a blueberry tort,
assorted cheese and pate' plates, and falafel.
And that is just what I remember off the
top of my head.

The wines also spread the gamut from
sparkling Spanish Cava, Proseco, Pinot
Grigio, Albarino white wines and hearty reds
like Spanish Tempranillo's and Grenache',
Italian Chianti, Primitivo's and one 1995
Barbaresco.  There were two wines from
Southern France that were also quite
delicious, a Rhone-style blend and a Malbec
from Cahors, France.  Our host Jim &
Cathy treated us to a Vin Santo wine from
Tuscany that you were supposed to dip your
biscotti cookies in.  Although it was a dessert
style wine, it was much drier than you might
expect.

Just for some background visual and noise I
had brought some videos and slideshows set
to music of our trip to Greece which seemed
to be a hit.  Especially the islands of
Mykonos and Santorini.  Jim & Cathy did a
fantastic job hosting our event and I cannot
thank them enough for opening up their
house to us.  This event was a lot of fun and
a great experience.  It was really nice to
meet some new faces and connect again with
some old ones too!

It didn't occur to me until the night was
almost over, but this month marks the
Dallas Secret Wine Society's 6th
Anniversary. So I guess....Happy Birthday to
Us!!!
