Savor Dallas 2007
Savor Dallas was a blast as usual this year.  I would
guesstimate that around twenty different members of the
Dallas Secret Wine Society made it out to this year's event.
For myself personally, I got to try a lot of new wines and most
of them were indeed very good.  The food of course was
fantastic, however, I must confess that I thought the food was
a little better last year.  Last year my favorite restaurant
treat was prepared by Sullivan's and it was seared tuna with a
wasabi mustard sauce.  This year I'd have to say that Ruth
Chris took that top spot for me with some delicate prime rib,
garlic mashed potatoes and a flavored brown gravy.  Trust
me, it was good!

Some of the wines that I tried that left a clear mark for me
would be the Veraison Black Bart Syrah and the Purple
Angel from Montes Alpha.  Jim DiMartino, the importer for
the Purple Angel had to empty the scraps from four different
bottles of the wine to get me an adequate taste, but it was
definitely worth it.  The ultimate highlight of the evening was
getting to meet the owner and winemaker from Tenute San
Guido (Tuscany) and tasting through their portfolio of wines
including the world famous 2003 Sassacaia.  Jim Burgess
brought two cases of wine to the event and by the last hour
was down to only one bottle of wine as you can see in the
pictures to the right.  Leslie and I got a room at the hotel so
we would not have to drive.  That allowed us to enjoy
ourselves thoroughly!

Earlier in the week, Leslie and I had Jim Burgess over for
dinner at our house.  Since he is from Napa and has access to
all the spoils that the valley can afford him, I decided to open
up nothing but wines from around the world and outside of the
US.  Other than the Pinot Noir from Burgundy, France, I'd
say that Jim would probably be content to sticking to Napa
Valley wines.  Oh well, it was fun introducing new things to
someone in the industry and we had a really fun evening just
haning out and talking.
