A Trip To Tuscany - Day Three
Day 1
Day 2
Day 3
Day 4
Day 5
The third day of our trip was the one I had been
looking forward to the most every since we
found out we were going to Italy.  Two trips to
wineries in Tuscany sandwiched around a
lunchtime visit to the medieval town of San
Gimignano.  It was also going to be the first time
we really ventured outside of Florence and into
the Tuscan Countryside.  The entire group was
making this journey, unlike some days when the
activities were optional, so I believe all told we
had three buses full of American Tourists.  Look
out Europe!

On the way out of Florence, which is a city with
streets barely big enough for two cars, let alone
a bus, the ride was quite adventurous.  These
bus drivers are quite the daredevils.  There were
many occasions when I didn’t think we were
going to clear a car, building, pedestrian, dog,
sign, you name it, we damn near hit it!  But to
our utter astonishment, our bus driver
circumnavigated the narrow streets of Florence
with Grand Prix precision.

Once you get out of Florence, it does not take
very long at all before you find yourself
immersed in the rolling hill beauty that is the
Tuscan Countryside.  On all sides of the road
you can see vineyards, olive trees, nut trees,
etc… everywhere around you.  Some of these
vineyards clearly belong to large wineries, but
still even more belong to families that
apparently makes their own private wine for
consumption.  Talk about being self sufficient.  I
found these little home vineyards quite
interesting.  I wonder if their wine is any good?
I wonder if Leslie will let me plant some
vineyards in the backyard?

On the way out to our first winery, I tried taking
as many pictures as I could of the countryside
outside the bus window as we were moving.  It
was a complicated art form I must admit and
many pictures wound up having to be deleted.
Where do all of those big hidden trees on the
side of the road come from?  Those agile giant
vermin seemed to pop up just in the nick of time,
filling my camera frame and destroying my
Pulitzer prized photographs.

Since I took so many pictures this day, I thought
it would be best to divide the following into three
parts by location or destination, whatever you
want to call it!

Castello di Monsanto

               San Gimignano

     Castello di Verrazzano
