Shane's Wine Notes
As I drink the wines from my wine cellar, I like to make notes about the wines so that I
can remember the experience.  I could not fit all of the notes on this page, for instance, I
left out when I opened the wine and who I shared it with.  I also left out the age of the
wine when it was consumed and how much life I believe it had left in it.  I would also note
the condition the wine was in.  But you may still find this page interesting, especially if
you have tried one of the wines on this list before.  You can compare your experience
with my mine and see if you agree with me.

Bright acidity, great with food and delicious.  Medium body
Bright and lively.  Went down like candy.  Nice and fat
Nose Closed, but oh what a finish.  Little oak, but big fruit finish
Needed 1/2 hr to decant - Very rustic with black fruits & licorice
Typical California Chardonnay - Fruity and heavily oaked
Still a little earthy, maybe age would fix that.  Not overwhelming
Soft & Lush in the mouth, but the finish was short
Razor sharp acidity & fresh clean vibrant flavors
Bitter and one-dimensional.  Nowhere near as good as the 2002
Good acidity, may develop more complexity with age
Very Green & muddy, too astringent, hard to drink continuosly
Fantastic, as it warmed up, it just kept getting better.  Classic B.
Wow, a great Pinot.  Wonderful depth and mouthfeel. ******
Still very tannic.  Will probably improve with age.
Very attractive right now.  Nice fruit and plump, drink soon though
Holy crap, like drinking a tea bag.  Way, way too early to drink!
Kind of flabby an uninspirational.  Nothing wrong with it though.
Still very green, needs more time to develop the fruit.
Classic Tuscan wine.  For the money, quite a delight
Had everything I love in a Spanish wine, nice softness, lush
A fantastic Burgundy for the money.  Please buy again!
Still my favorite Sauvignon Blanc.  Well-balanced and tasty
I was not blown away.  Perhaps it needed more time.
Pretty solid, green notes were barely noticeable.
Wonderul with a lovely honeyed texture.  Lush, sweetness
A fruit bomb, but one dimensional with a short finish
Very lush with a big mouthfeel, spicy nose, better with age
Very good, but it was starting it's downhill slide.  Still acidic though
Very tasty.  Plenty of fruit to go along with all the oak and butter.
Flabby & Light.  Disappointing considering the vintage was great.
In a dumb stage.  Drank way too early.  Would improve with age.
Still incredible.  Wish I had a case left.  Great spice & fruit.
Barnyardy, thin, forrest floor, too acidic & out of balance.
The bottle was toasted by a faulty cork. Should not have bought it.
Fantastic as always.  Big cherries and lush mouthfeel. Delicious
Consistent with my prior tasting.  Very good, but not ageworthy.
Tasty, but thin and out of balance.  Not their best effort.
At first it was tired, but then it opened up into something nice, soft
A bit bitter as Malbecs tend to be.  Good, going nowhere.
Nice and plump, a Cal fruit bomb.  Tasty.  Not a blockbuster.
Delicious! Cedar/Evergreen Nose, Fat black fruits, lush mouthfeel
Intense Nose.  Earthy with black fruits, full body, good, not great.
Classic Seghesio, jammy, rich and lots to love.  A touch sweet.
Rough Start, but quickly came around, thin but tasty.
Fun & tasty.  Coffee bean & Black/Boysenberries.  Starbucks!!!
Over the hill.  Black Olives and other strange aromas. Stored Poorly
Crumbly cork, a touch oxidized, Plummy, but disappointing.
No Oak at all.  Heavy on fruit, blueberry & cherry.  A second bottle.
Super, tasty.  Fat and full with lots of fruit.  Much better than first time
Like Cline, dark in taste profile, especially wood.  Tannins falling out.
Too green and did not develop with air.  Disappointing.
Impressive.  Petrol & Lemon Curd.  Still good acidity.  Best with food.
Nice Fat Zin.  Big extraction and depth.  As advertised by WS.
Still very dark & tannic.  I don't think it would improve with age though.
Lush and full.  A couple of years should soften it nicely.  Good.
This wine was corked and I had to replace it with something else.
Decanted for at least 4 hrs.  Big and studly.  A super wine.
Decanted for at least 4 hrs.  Nice and smooth.  Better than expected
Maybe drank too early, but I was not overly impressed.  Very acidic.
Overhyped.  It's a Chardonnay.  I guess it was good, but not special.
See above.  Still impressed.  I can't get over that great oak nose.
Great honeyed character to it.  Very tasty indeed.  Aged well.
Do these guys rock or what?  Still my favorite Sauv. Blanc Producer
Replaced the Allegrini.  It was drier than expected. Pleasant.
Not as thick as other Seghesio's.  Great blackberry color.  Nice Nose
Good, but a little green.  Threw sediment.  Expecting more from the 02
Rich and full, big red fruit & nice oak.  Not sure why JL gave it an "84".
Tart & Tangy.  The Viognier gives it a weird taste that was unappealling.
Very soft and lush.  Nice burnt toast oak, not much fruit, but good.
Heavy on burnt toast and clove with raspberry fruit and full body.
Very buttery with caramel & butterscotch and red licorice
Lush with big fruits like blackberries and peppery spices
Dark fruits and spice, with a medium body.  Very tasty.
Fat & juicy, big red fruits.  Fairly balanced.  A solid pinot for sure.
Delicious! Soft tannins, nice fruit & complex.  Much better than expected.
Drank after the Artesa, so not sure, but it seemed thinner, not complex.
Thin & watery, A bit too tart.  Decent nose, nothing special given vintage
Hard to pinpoint, but a little odd tasting.  Oak toast dominates fruit
Soft Tannins & gripping spice and blackberries.  Superb.
Nice nose and taste was good, but body was very thin.  Expected more
Big and jammy cab, well integrated, coffee bean and raisny.  Tasty
Still very tannic.  The fruit was unable to show itself thru the tannins.
Nose complex, fruit big and jammy, well integrated oak.  Built momentum.
A solid Pinot.  Great red fruit.  Just can't beat La Crema for the money.
Not as great as the last bottle, lots of sediment.  Still very tasty though.
Still weedy.  Not a big fan of it.  Grapes were underdeveloped.
Fantastic.  Great nose and taste, soft.  I can't believe how little it costs.
Very good, but losing acidity fast.  Nice creamy texture.  Not yeasty.
Like cough syrup.  Too sweet and unbalanced.  Not like I remembered.
Still very tannic.  Complex nose, very good.  A bit astringent though.
Great from the start.  Complex nose, bold tannins, great finish.
Started sluggish, but built momentum.  Nice complexity.
A tannic monster!  Opened too early.  Liked what I was tasting though.
Soft, luscious, dreamy.  Black cherry & Berry.  Awesome!
Great nose and big black fruits and spice.  Les love it.  Finish a bit short
Soft tannins, easy to drink.  Big mouthfeel and ripe fruit.  Solid.
Incredible Nose.  Coffee.  Complex and big, little oak, delicious.
Sweet fruit.  Would have been perfect with my spicy soup.  A fun wine.
Much better than the Sonoma.  Very dense.  Not a star, but good.
Bright & lively fruit.  Complex nose.  Great dinner wine.  Very enjoyable.
F'n unbelievable.  Nutty toast, bold acidity, incredible taste.  Heaven.
Getting that heavy petrol flavor (age).  Still fruity.  I like better when young
Good, but something was missing.  Fruit not pronounced, oak was.
Not as good as 04'.  Thinner and more tart.  Not ageworthy either.
Complex nose, but a little bitter on the finish.  Not as good as JL says.
Very good, but not ageworthy and a little too dark.  Astringent.
Plump and juicy.  Very pleasant to drink.  Not a stand out though.
Too acidic, I think more time would have evened it out.
Delicious!  Nice plump red fruit, great nose, fun to drink!
Built momentum.  At first a little bitter, not as complex as I was hoping.
Slow starter, out of balance at first, but as it breathed, got more complex.
Great!  Drier style of Viognier.  Very fun to drink, doesn't get tiring.
Great nose, great taste, nice an plump.  Well done.  Get more!
Very solid.  Nice pinot flavor profile
Good, but fell short of the other two vintages.
Most complex of the three vintages adding a little herbal touch to fruit.
Thin, and the oak dominates the fruit.
The best of the three vintages.  Oak not as dominate, a little more body.
About the same as the 2002.
Poor vintage year and was the weakest of the bunch
The best by far.  Nice and complex.
Probably the second best of the four.  Lost a little something from 2001
Good but not great.  Better than 2000 but off the pace of the rest.
Best 2000 of the tasting.  Very good fruit.
Very good, but not as good as I was hoping by vintage standards
Excellent.  The best of the four.  Quality at a great price.
The poorest of the four, still very good though.
Worst 2000 of the bunch.  Too green!
Getting better.  Still underwhelmed a bit.
Similar in style and taste to the 2001.
The absolute rock star of the tasting!  Great fruit and concentration.
Definitely better as it opened up.  At first it was bitter.  Not super.
All that and a bag of chips!!  Heavy oak was not intrusive to fruit.  Superb!
Strong Age potential, but a little on the harsh side now.  Blueberries.
Too funky for my tastes.  Lighter in color and body and weird tasting.
Lovely.  I think it could last forever.  Not as complex as I was hoping.
Still going strong, tannic, with more years left.  A little green tasting.
A Rock Star!  Soft tannins, lush body, chocolate, dark inky purple.
Very good, nice acidity and red fruit. Between an Oregon & a Burgundy
Nice acidity, earthy and complex.  Great food wine too.  Excellent
Big and Fat, Burgundy meets California!  Excellent and great price.
Good, but not as great as I was expecting.  A touch flabby
Very astringent.  Dark.  Not complex either, but pretty good.
A big mouthfull of blueberries.  Fun to drink, but not a long-term ager.
Lots of sediment.  Good taste, rounded, nose closed, but very nice.
Awesome, Again!  Fruit is a touch sweet adding to complexity.
This has Brett!  I can smell it.  It was just okay in my book.
Man these guys are onto something.  Nice, spice and dark fruit
Fruity-Grenache, Spicy-Shiraz.  Dark fruits and spice.  Interesting wine
Huge, silky and luscious.  Tons of sediment.  Stawberry jam.
Big honkin malbec chocked full of Blueberries.  Could age longer
Solid and consistent, as Catena usually is.  Tannins more mellow
A little better than the regular Malbec.  Silkier tannins on the palate
Masculine and cigar-like in aroma.  A beast. Great without decanting
Like having two wines for $10, this wine delivers above the price range.
Nice, soft and flavorfull.  Rounded tannins, not built for long aging.
Trying to be a Bordeaux, but way short.  Good cherry w/herbal accents
Nice and spicy, smooth and rich.  More complex than straight Malbec
Better than last 03, but still losing acidity fast.  Lemony citrus.
Rich, creamy and a little toasty.  A big Champagne, not thin & acidic
Fantastic given the cork was bad.  Lemon and green apple, big body.
Lots of dark cola beans.  Akward without food and needed more time.
Incredible!  Wood was seamless.  May be the best CA Pinot I've had
Deep and concentrated.  Very good but not overwhelming.
Still showing well, but not as good as the zins.  May be the vintage.
Well rounded with great oak aromas and good zin fruit.  Not huge.
Hard to tell because of previous wine, but it seemed smooth. Liked by all
As good as advertise.  Complex with big fruits and tasty oak.
A little disappointed given price.  Well made though & showing good fruit.
Loads of fruit.  Very little tannins.  Not complex, but well done.
Green and akward.  Too much of the wrong things to make a great pinot.
Seemed more balanced than the vineyard X, but not enough omph.
Solid with mucho tannins.  All the components were there.
Old smoky cedar like oak aromas.  A dark zinfandel with dark flavors
Good elements, harmonious.  Stags leap characteristics.  Just not deep!
A dark flavored zin, probably from the petite sirah.  Interesting flavors
Sauvignon Blanc just does not age well.  No zip left at all.
I wish Raymond still made wine like this.  Simply wonderful.
What I get from Titus is a good early drinking Cab.  Not an ager, but solid.
Home Ranch is good, but I like Old Vine & Sonoma County better.
Pretty good, would love to taste a better vintage.  I bet it can be great.
Holding up well, but not developed to the style I love.  Still very good.
Proves once again the H.Steiman has a terrible palate.  This rocks!
Typical NZ SB flavors, but with a much bigger mouthfeel.  Fantastic.
Nicely done and well rounded.  Lacks the body to put it over the top though
Complex, medium to full bodied and very smooth.  Definitely their best wine
Scorched, cooked, past its prime, dead, gone, should have been buried
Yeow!  Big and fruit forward.  More like Cali Pinot.  Great stuff though.
Great depth, nice and lush.  A solid effort without any intrusive oak.
Still sleeping and I regret waking it up.  It was not ready to drink.
I thought I didn't care much for this.  Boy was I wrong.  Complex & gracefull
A little more body than the Burgess, very tasty indeed for a tough vintage
Everything is in place for this wine to kick ass in another six years!
Once again, how do you beat these guys at Sauvignon Blanc.  You don't.
Very, very good.  Not sure about aging potential, but delicious now.
Not overly complex, but a good tooth staining Petite Sirah none-the-less
Not as aproachable now as the 2000, but had we waited, it would pay off
Oak dominates fruit, but oh how lovely the oak is.  Drinking good now.
Elegant and light on its feet.  Nicely balanced and very tasty.
Large and in charge.  Mucho body and it could have aged the distance.
Tannins are still very aggressive.  I like it a lot, especially the price
As expected very solid.  Not earthshaking, but very good
Good value for Rhone wine.  Moderate body & tannins, not a long ager
A feminine pinot, light and elegant.  Needs food, salmon or tuna
Not as soft as I remember.  Needed time to open but delivered as it did
No depth, finish runs short, age would not help.  I was left flat
Disappointing.  Astringent, one dimensional.  Not like I remember.
Fantastic, Bordeaux meets Napa.  Wonderful palate and complex nose
Well done!  The oak doesn't overwhelm but adds great depth.  Outstanding
Not at all like I remembered.  Not complex or compelling.  Dry & Chalky
Disappointing.  I expected more.  I remember the 2002 being much better.
Very good, especially the nose.  Age would not improve it.  Solid Pinot.
Great nose, medium body, but very tasty.  Oak meshes nicely with fruit.
Big and full of muscle.  Great oak & body, bold fruit underlying, complex
I gave it the same score WS did.  Lots of cola, maybe sliding downhill.
Good, but I think the Sonoma County is just as good and cheaper.
Opened too early.  Not much oak, but still big in tannins.  Not as good as 02
Needs a little more tannic backbone to push it over 90pts.  Solid
I actually like it a touch better than the Zin.  Not sure about aging potential.
Well rounded.  Soft tannins and great nose.  Excellent, but holding back.
Thin upfront, tannic on back-end, short finish,  Out of balance.
Probably needed more time to open up a bit.  A bit conservative.
This was great.  Soft & full on the palate.  Loads of currant.  High alcohol.
Well, disappointing given reputation & I hate agreeing w/J. Laube.  Average
Superb!  I had to decant for 3 hours after which it became fantastic.
I might like the 03 better, but this is still a rock star in book.  Same score
Should have decanted.  Very solid though, more oak than necessary.
Good, tasty, but something is missing on the back end.  Hollow.
Breathtaking nose, wonderful deliverary on palate.  Loses a little luster at end
Nice and well rounded, but stopped short of being a rock star.  Nice nose
Great.  Nice lush mouthfeel and very tasty Zin.  A subtle Old Vine.
Still very good.  I don't see it going thru a dumb stage.  Very plump.
Still very tannic.  Decant the next one.  Fantastic when it opens up.
Not as good as 02'.  A little greener than before.  Still pretty good though
Smokin Good.  Big beefy blackberry and very rich.  Get more!
Whoa!  This was built to age.  Super with velvety tannins.  Drank too soon.
Seemless and Bordeaux like.  Hasn't even hit its stride yet.  Very good.
Silky, sexy, sensous, feminine.  Excellent.  Very much like Burgundy.
Excellently made.  Oak is not overdone, but just not Burgundy.
Still very tannic.  Smelled great, but little fruit coming thru.  Still young.
Rustic and earthy.  Lots of beef and bacon.  Thinner and more mature.
More body and fruit than 01' but not as much charm.  Average.
The best of the four.  Lots of body and fruit with some complexity too.
Too much alcohol, very heady.  Too plain and indiscript.
Stoled the show.  Wonderfully complex, dark berries, rustic and soft tannins
Drank too early.  Still rough and gritty, but it would definitely improve w/age.
HS from WS rated this the highest proving once again, he has no taste!
Getting better.  Less herbal than the first and more spicy pepper.
It all came together on this particular vintage.  The best of the lot by far.
This competed with the 2000 for the worst and I think it may have the edge.
The best of the three.  Nice balance of Herbal & Fruit flavors and soft tannins
Still pretty good if just a hair under the first.  Again the balance was good.
What the hell happened to this vintage.  Yuck!  This sucked.  A weed.
Way to tannic to show its goods.  Not sure how it would have developed.
Needs time, too young to drink now.  Will never be as good as the 2002
Tired and probably stored improperly by Sigel's.  It was spent!
Good, but not as intense as the Eileen Cab.  Easy drinking, not complex
Fantastic nose, big, rich and concentrated.  Superb!  Wish I had more
An early drinker.  Big and fruity, but no core tannins to support long life
Bravo!  Nice Sangiovese Cherry flavors and whopping tannins to preserve
Geez this bastard is tannic!  Give it time and lots of it!  Should perform well
Typical Cal Chard, but very well made.  Tropical and lush mouthfeel
Simple in complexity, but very rich in pinot flavors.  Good all around Pinot
Stored poorly by store.  Not tired yet, but not as good as it should be.
Pretty good, still plenty of tannins.  Not a wow wine, but a good one.
Started off huge and then shrunk as it decanted.  Tannic, but no follow thru
Good value for the money.  Always consistent.  Well received
Better than WS lets on.  Very rich and flavorful.  People liked it.
Again, better than WS rating.  Not a stunning Barolo, but still pretty good.
One of the two best in Tasting.  Big, bold and chewy.  Lots of flavor & appeal
The other great wine in tasting.  100% Merlot.  Great oak shadings, soft
Good density for non-barolo.  Started better than it finished. Showed well.
Crowd Pleaser!  Very unique indeed.  Rich and syrupy.  Showed well
Again, showed really well.  More fruity than the Ormani.  Well rounded
Not as good as I remember.  This wine is better when it is young.
Awesome, I think it was even better than the 99'.  Enchanting oak & fruit.
A little funky.  The previous bottle was better, not sure why though.
Needed decanting, very acidic at first, but opened up beautifully.  True to PN
Very, very good.  Probably the best of all Seghesio Zins.  Plenty of depth.
Not like I remembered, but still very tasty indeed.  No oak aromas, big fruit!
Full bodied, full of flavor and a fantastic nose.  Went out and bought 2 more.
Lush blueberrys.  Not overly complex, but very delicious.  Good young.
Bitter, not like I remembered.  Could just be the bottle that I bought though.
Rustic, but charmingly so.  Leather and cherry notes.  We enjoyed it.
Did a good job, considering the poor vintage, but will never be a rockstar
Nice dry rose.  Needs food to really shine, but would be excellent with food
Great Oak nose, but it needs time for that to fade a little.  Should age well
Hitting it's stride.  Complex and delicious.  Could go a while longer.
Odd nose, with tar & rubber, but the taste is much better.  Aussie-like
Nicely integrated.  Lush with ample amounts of everything.  WS panned it.
Firm tannins that block the fruit now, but who knows with age.
Very good with loads of fruit.  No umph on backend though, still a great zin
Great now & great later, soft tannins, this shiraz is in your face.
A little closed now, this wine needed more time to be all it can be.
Has a ways to go, very tannic and some herbal tones, but great underneath
A tannin bomb.  Opened Way too early.  Tannins masked fruit.  Hard to tell
Lovely rose flavors of red fruits, refreshing acidity and outstanding depth
Soft tannins, lush mouthfeel and complex aromas and flavors.  Fantastic.
Well, to be honest, I was left wanting more from it.  Drier in style, but simple
Solid and well-made, especially considering vintage.  Plenty of life left.
Silky, concentrated, great nose & palate.  Very, very good, great food wine
Started off weird, but once it opened it became grand and luxorious.
Very good, a little hollow in the center, but plump and refreshing.
Huge!  High Alcohol, but not that noticeable.  Big fruit flavors and rich
More tannins than the other vineyard.  More complex as well.  Good stuff
Good Aussie Shiraz.  Stops short of some of the bigger ones, but good.
Better this time.  Vanilla from oak is integrating more.  Still huge in fruit.
Started off good, but was going downhill rapidly.  Complex aromas.
Saucy, spicy oak flavors and aromas.  Maybe too much so.  Good ager.
Way to much vanilla oak aromas.  It buries everything, including the fruit.
Most tannic Cal pinot I've had.  Huge, complex and stunning.  Give it time!
Nice and flavorful.  Not as much tannins as I expected.  Pretty smooth
Just like before.  Excellent Pinot Noir and very easy to drink.
Sharp tingling acidity, dry with honey and diesel aromas.  Splendid drinking
At first it seemed great, but it quickly became clear, the fruit was overripe
Baam!  If Zin is your thing this one is up your alley.  Large & in Charge Fruit
Very good, like all Patz's Pinots, but not as good as the 2002
A little gritty.  Not in the same league as the 97' and 99'.  Could go longer
Lush, nice and plump full of sweet fruit and tannins.  Just like you'd expect.
Fantastic!  A masterpiece of a Pinot.  Tannins fell into place now & shine
I think it holds back a little, but for $30.00 there is nothing in it's league.
The oak is a masterpiece of compliments to the fruit.  Excellent job done.
What the heck happened here?  Nowhere near as good as the Hillside. Weedy
Huge, fat bodied mama with tons of spice and blackberry.  Mucho studly
Tough vintage, but they made the best of it.  Impressive effort, but 2001 is better
Thick and creamy with a good acidic pop.  Solid brut champagne style
Great as always.  Big full-bodied Sauvignon Blanc with many layers
The star of the show!  Everyone's favorite wine of the dinner.  Plump and juicy
In a total dumb stage.  Went back and tried the next day and it showed more.
Too early to drink.  It came around, but was still hiding the goods.
Pretty earthy & weedy.  I'm hoping that bottle age will correct that in the long term
Too oaky.  Needs time to let that oak settle in.  Not as good as previous vintage
JL says 78, I say he is an idiot!  Chalky at first, it came around & would evolve well
Takes a while to get going, but it finally opens up nice.  Complex, but not intense
Great!  Nice zinging acidity, still pale in color and nice hazelnut and toast to apple
Very nice.  Complex and still plenty of fruit showing.  Nice weight to it as well
Wow!  Best Cab Franc I've ever had.  Fruity, lush with soft tannins and no weeds!
Oh so nice and gentle.  Sweet red fruit and very soft tannins.  Easy to drink.
Smells great, but right now, the oak is buries everything.  Needs more time in bottle
I was not blown away.  It could have been stored poorly so I will reserve judgement
Seems to be a winner year in and year out.  Always lush, soft and fruity.
It took a while to grow on me, but it finally did.  Oak not intrusive, fruits slightly sweet
I actually think it was denser than the Yamhill, but not as complex.  Good fruit
A little thin compared to others in tasting, but nice nose and complexity
A big fat mama of a pinot.  Plump and juicy with lots of fruit.  One of the three best
Pretty big and full of fruit, but lighter than the other Rocos.  Some preferred it.
Similar to the Nuthouse in weight and style, but maybe lighter in intensity.
Much like the 2003 and the Nuthouse.  One of the three best in the tasting.
My favorite of the three.  Very exotic and floral.  Rose purple color. Threw sediment
Similar to the 2002, but not as developed yet.  Could be better with another year
Not as bad as HS says, but clearly everyone's least favorite.  It was barnyardy
Not my thing.  Lots of herbal characteristics.  Could go longer, but would stay same
Still young and spry.  Full of rich flavor and nice black olive.  Could go much longer
A great big spicy tuscan wine.  Full of rich flavors and very soft tannins.  Loved it.
Out of balance I'm guessing because it was completely acidic.  Disappointing.
Great balance, fruit intensity matches oak.  Long life ahead of this wine.
Reflects the vintage.  Great acidity left and toasty nutty shadings as well
Wonderful, nice and masculine.  Evolving nicely and built for the long haul
Wow!  Big fruit and spicy flavors with a giant tannic backbone.  Will evolve nicely
A youngster.  Very rich and full of butterscotch.  Probably not ready to drink yet.
Astringent with bitter tannins and little fruit.  Out of balance and would not age well.
Good as always, however, I think I liked the previous two vintages a little better.
Still a bruiser, tannic-wise.  Good depth and nice dark profile.  Not as good as 2000
A light colored and bodied wine with retained acidity.  Not as much depth as hoping
Rustic and old world style oak and flavors.  Good depth, but not a wow wine.
Peaking, a very tasty wine, but not age worthy.  Good fruit and acidity.
Big and brooding.  Like a Bordeaux, earthy and tannic, but ageworthy & complete
A great wine for a poor vintage, not as much to offer as the 2001, but tasty
A hot vintage and it shows, fruit is very prominent and sweet.  Very approachable
Corked.  Not able to rate, but previous bottle was exceptional.
Very tannic and probably out of balance with the fruit.  Not sure of age ability
Well balanced and with oak and fruit integration.  Rustic in style, but very good
A good wine, but the oak completely masked all of the mellow fruit flavors
Past its peak.  Very orange in color and losing everything.  Probably poorly stored
Hollow at first with little to no mid-palate.  But then it started to improve.
Great nose, but the wine was thin and disappointing.  Almost too light for varietal
Better this time.  Typical Cal Chard, but very refreshing anyway.  Not over-oaked
Pretty tough right now.  I think it actually needs more time to develop.  We'll see
85pts - Laube, why does it still have lots of life left at age 13?  Very nice & smooth
Started rough, but opened up into something nice and charming.  Not a spicy syrah
Yea, it is pretty darn good.  Lots to love here.  I don't know if it will last 2 decades
Now it is hitting its groove.  Very very nice.  Nice secondary aromas and flavors
It was good, but I think I prefer the 2003 which was much softer and fuller
Special!  Hard to say just how good, with just a glass, but supple, rich and soft
I applaud them for making it, very unique, but a little bitter & one dimensional
More tannins than I thought there'd be.  Good supple fruit, but needed a yr or 2 more
Gorgeous aromas of black olives and fruit.  Might be the best vintage I've had of this
Very funky brett-like aromas.  Unappealing nose and very uninteresting.  Disappointed
Like Chiarello's Cab & Zin.  Nice juicy dark fruit like all PJ's, just without the tannins
Maybe a little on the overripe side.  Some raisiny quality to it.  Not a huge wine
Still their best wine, but not like I remembered it.  Fairly complex, but not stellar
I liked the 99' better.  This was good, but nowhere near the depth or tannins
Decant!  At first its acidic and funky, but after air, it really comes around w/fruit
Less than impressed.  Just not a great vintage for them.  Pretty good otherwise.
A softly scented style that is dry and refreshing.  They do a good job with viognier
Not as deep & tannic as 04' version.  Much thinner too, but still very pleasant
Super ripe, super lush & soft, super cherry & red fruits, super wine!  Buy more!
Not much tannins underneath and the fruit was fading.  Not sure about ageability.
Floral nose like other VD's, but much more dense and full of tannins.  Very good
Nice and soft, very lush.  Somewhat like their Symmetry and certainly on par with it
As if it came from another planet!  F/N Unbelievable!  Plump, Juicy and oh so fine!
Awkward & out of balance.  Wood dominated fruit and it would not improve with age
Something went way wrong here.  Might have been off, but it was raisiny & tired
Full bodied, and rich, on the sweet side.  Not what you'd expect for the varietal.
Tannins had dropped already, it was lush and soft, but the fruit was fading fast
Akward at first until it air out.  It was still funky, not sure if it was just this one or not
Tasty with nice fruit and a little backbone.  Not a long ager though, a good cab though
Razor sharp acidity, almost too acidic.  Steely and clean, but low on fruit & flavor
Bad cork, lost most acidity, but still hanging on and had potential to be great.
Earthy and barnyardy.  Takes a while to come around, but never quite delivers
Tasted like & was as big as a Cab.  Very dense and soft, threw heavy sediment
A Tannic beast, needed at least an hour to open up.  Lots of great potential though
Oak had settled down and everything was nicely integrated.  Big, soft and lush
Probably past it's prime by a year or two, but still thick & creamy, nice flavor
Excellent structure and integration.  Hadn't reached peak drinking yet.  Solid
Wouldn't necessarily improve w/age, but nice and fruity now, Seven Hills is better
Just unbelievable, this wine seems to have an unlimited shelf life.  Great job
Definitely peaking right now, the fruit is still present, but starting to reside a little
Off, I think this wine had Brett.  I am unsure if all 1995's are like this or just this one
Back to form in this vintage.  Kind of like 1993 in style and flavor, will it age too?
Vintage 97 all the way.  Soft and fruit forward.  A crowd pleaser, my 3rd favorite
Showed all of the pitfalls that the 98 vintage was portrayed for.  Okay considering 98
Best Burgess Cab I've ever had and maybe better than the Enviere.  Close call
Despite a rough vintage, they did pretty well here.  A lot of people liked this one
Honestly, I was a little disappointed, it didn't live up to the vintage in my opinion
Laube 80 pts!  What, is he high?  This cab rocks and is my second favorite, big ager
This time Laube 82pts was right.  Chalky tannins and no fruit to support under them
Very good.  Not a heavy bodied syrah, but nice fruit and spice mixture, tasty oak
Too much oak just like the Merlot.  Not sure if the fruit would get past it in time
Not Syrah-like in taste profile.  Soft and tasty, but odd and hard to peg what it is.
Masculine with tobacco leaf and dark fruit.  Very good and got softer as it breathed
Strong Syrah flavors like tar, pepper and roasted coffee.  Pretty good stuff.
Soft, lush as far as the mouthfeel goes.  Good balance of oak and fruit.
Everything is in place, good tannins and structure, may not be my thing though
Tannins had dropped, but it was still dark red and had loads of sweet fruit left
Showed some Brett perhaps, underneath that it was okay, but it was still prominent
Started off great, but quickly collapsed.  I liked the taste, but it was not very complex
Bordeaux like, was a little bitter and further age may have made that worse.
Certianly better than the Enviere from the same yr, but still a little underwhelming
Definitely a little past its prime.  I felt it had lost a lot and became one-dimensional
Where it should be.  Tasted very good and was food complimentary, zesty still
Opened up after a glass and became very nice and full.  Nice and well rounded
A great Merlot.  They really do a great job with this varietal, almost cab-like and full
Decanted and it softened nicely.  Well integrated, not a huge cab, more subtle
Big and brawny.  Chocolate, currant, licorice, cinnamon, clove & coffee.  Mouthful
Iffy at first, but once it gained momentum, it was really nice.  Had lost acidity though
Maybe too earthy for me, typical masculine flavors, but perhaps a little unripe
Great, it wasn't tight it opened up nicely and was big and fleshy.  Best of the decade
Nice, thick and creamy.  The nose was closed, but it was tart and tasty with life left
Took 2 1/2 hours to decant but once it opened up it was a thing of beauty.
With more time to decant it would have been even better, nice and chocolatey
Pretty big for a Pinot, almost cab-like.  Ageworthy, nice structure and dense core
Very tasty indeed.  True to Rhone characteristics with dark flavors.  Nice finish
Rich, dark and intensly flavored.  I may like this better than the higher rated 2004
Tight at first & I was worried about the cork, finally became well rounded & complex
Still big and tannic, it seems this wine may age forever.  Lots of old style structure
Had to decant, but it opened up nicely.  Very complex and full of life.  Not a full body.
Not ready yet & needs time to evolve, but holy cow, dense and intense. A rockstar
Underwhelming, a little green.  Disappointing considering the vintage. Air improved it
Rich, very ripe fruit and a nice dense mouthfeel.  Full of dark flavors and soft tannins
Thinner bodied than expected, but still very nice with an interesting nose.
Very good for a Carmenere wine, but not transcending.  Nice and soft, feint bellpepper
Good acidity, complex with lots of layers, not rich or dense, but very tasty.
Not huge, but complex with lots of layers and flavors.  More feminine in style
Always consistently good.  Tannins keep a low profile, lots of red fruits and smooth
May be the best wine I've had in 08' so far.  Monster tannins, the nose filled the room
Tasty, but no depth of flavors.  I decanted it, but it failed to blossom further.
Needed an hour in the Decanter, but the wait was well worth it.  Huge Pinot Noir
Very rustic, maybe even a little tired.  2nd one from Sigel's that had cork issues.
Also rustic, but in an expected way.  Not much fruit left in this though. Declining
Earthy and tobacco heavy.  I think this would've been better with more age on it
Oh yea, this was the real deal.  Not as bell peppery as other vintages. Very solid
Very good, soft with good ratio of fruit to oak flavors.  Overshadowed by the big wines
Just needs time.  This is a great wine, not as good as the Pride Merlot and Syrah
Fantastic nose, great spicy oak and loads of dark fruits.  Evenly balanced and tasty
Kind of sweet tasting.  Soft, but in a wimpy way.  I liked it better this time though
Killer syrah.  Big aromas and just wonderful fruit and concentration.  Excellent
Yes it was good, but I was disappointed.  I expected more, the Dutchske smoked it
Started rough, decanting brought great depth and flavors.  Dark and Mysterious
Still pretty good, just like the first time I had at Staff Tasting.  Not a long ager though
Unusual, it was sweet.  Very nice and tasty though.  A cross between France & CA
Great job in rough vintage.  Lush and soft, tons of fruit & no herbal accent from 03'
Great job in rough vintage.  The aroma filled the room.  A little thin, but terrific tasting
Very smooth & probably did not need air.  Not as much depth as I remember, good
Started rough, but smoothed out a little.  Time had robbed a lot of the fruit.  Good
Hmm, still not sure if I like this style aged.  Yellow, honeyed a little, little acid left
I was surprised by how much fruit was lost.  This did not age well.  Better when young
I preferred the 03'.  Really rough at first, but better after decanting.  Needs lots of time
Beautiful nose.  The oak shadings are great.  Fruit is dissapating, but still nice & dark
Not my thing, but very good for the varietal.  Tannic as all get out.  Needs a few years
Softer than the Pride, more of a lush mouthfeel.  Actually pretty good for Cab Franc
Aging much better than the 03'.  Good depth of flavor and silky.  Plummy and cherry
Too much oak it dominated the fruit.  Hard to say what more age would have done
Still too young!  When will I learn.  Decanted for 3+ hrs and it finally came around
Big tannins from dark cherry & plum fruit.  Very intense and delicious, not much oak
Thin for a big cab & pretty acidic.  Softened up okay and fairly complex.
Delicious.  Tannins had dropped and it had reached its peak.  Smooth w/good fruit
Big fat cola bomb.  Very lush and soft, perhaps over the top.  Not much acidity
Disappointing.  Already peaked, what happened to all of the stuffing?
Rough at first, but as it opened up, it really came around.  Complex and full-flavored
In an akward phase, between young (Acidic) & old style.  Not really special
Yeow!  Super ripe and very intense.  Started great & continued to improve with air.
Nice and mellow.  Good balance with fruit and oak.  I just wasn't wowed is all.
Much better than the 2003.  This was complex & Burgundian in nature.  Not huge
Tannins had dropped, once it aired out it became complex and very tasty.  Still dark
More Bordeaux like than Argentina Malbec.  Well-rounded and complex w/soft tannins
Insanely good!  Pure expression of Pinot.  The best US Pinot I've had to date!!!
Lush mouthfeel, intense cherries.  Bad cork, was peaking too soon.  But solid
Big Chard.  Oak integrated nicely with lots of fruit.  Fairly complex with good acidity
Starts off solid, good nose, etc…but then it finishes a little shorter than expected
Still a very solid merlot.  Soft and fruity.  It is slipping a little with age.  Best young
Good structure.  Nice balance of fruit & tannin.  Not affected by the vintage at all
In transition mode.  Great nose, thinning out a little, but still very etheral and complex
Wonderful, lush & soft.  Great nose and dark plum fruit.  Probably right at it's peak
WS 88???  Like the Merlot, very lush and sensual.  Warm red fruits and very soft
A little thin, but still very tannic.  Starting to evolve into a brand new wine.
Complex dark fruits and very juicy.  A nice young and vivacious red wine.
Still very tannic.  Great nose, but tight on the palate.  Would be better with more age.
Rustic in style and taste.  Pleasant on the palate w/a short finish & high acidity
Still very rustic and tannic.  Somewhat bitter and traditional - needed more time
Acidic & still had harsh tannins compared to others.  All in all, though, very good
Peaking right now or at least hitting its stride.  Opened nicely & in good form
Solid for a poor vintage, but everyone's least favorite.  Just didn't have the stuffing
The masterpiece of the bunch.  Everything I like about 04 vintage, soft & lush fruit
Not ready to drink yet, but will be solid in the future.  Maybe not 04 good though
Big and brawny in the tannins, the next day it tasted Rhone like.  My least favorite
More soft fruit and tannins.  Blackberry jam.  Nice stuffing & good aging potential
The rock star of the tasting.  Everything integrated nicely.  Well balanced & delicious
Very much like a Rhone wine and very different from the rest with beef n bacon notes
HS 91pts??? - A vanilla bombed oak filled shiraz w/little else to distinguish it from others
WS 93pts - Well maybe not quite that good, but solid for sure, rich and juicy fruit
WS 94pts - Not sure I'd agree.  Had to drink too early though, very tannic & angular
Very bordeaux like.  Nice complexity, great aroma, a style I appreciate, but not my fav.
Not as lush as the Sonoma Coast, but maybe more complex.  Needs much more time.
Hated it at 1st, but over 2 hrs in the decanter really made it blossom into a full wine.
Nose a little musky, but delivered lush cherries & berries on the palate.  Well done.
