Wine & Cheese Pairing Event Recap
|

It's hard to believe that in over two years, the Dallas Secret Wine
Society has never had a Wine & Cheese Pairing Event. Well, it was
time to start a new tradition, so we had our first ever at the newly
married Mark & Ronda Peterman's house.
I posted a generic list of wines and cheese and what you should pair
between the two on our website. Secretly I was hoping that our guests
would do some research on their own. I was pleasantly surprised to
find that most people did exactly that. I was also pleased by the
diverse range of wines that people brought to this event. We even
had a few dessert wines to try out with different cheeses. Some of the
more interesting pairings that I can remember off of the top of my
head were Port and Blue Cheese as well as a Port with a
truffle-infused Brie, and a few Spanish Tempranillo wines paired with
Manchego cheeses. However, in my opinion, it was our hostess with
the mostess, Ronda, that provided the group with the slam dunk
pairing of the evening. It was a baked Brie cheese (pie) paired with a
Sterling Vineyard Chardonnay. The buttery texture of the
Chardonnay was exquisite with the silky, creamy baked Brie. Way to
go Ronda!
I think a few people were disappointed that I didn't go over the wines
and cheese with everyone, but I felt the best thing I could do was to let
everyone experiment on their own and find out what cheeses they
liked with which wines and what ones they didn't. To some extent this
worked, I think there were a few that made a concerted effort to pair
different wines with different cheeses to make observations from, but
by in the end it came down to what it normally does, hey...I think this
wine is my favorite and this cheese is divine! This was evidenced by
the fact that some bottles of wine and some plates of cheese
disappeared quicker than others. That's okay with me, after all, the
ultimate goal of the event was to have fun and that we did! By the
way, there were a lot of new members that participated in this event
and I think that is awesome! Please keep coming!
