Dinner at Zorba's Greek Restaurant in Plano
|

The Dallas Secret Wine Society invaded
Zorba's this past Thursday night for a little
Greek food and European wines. I have to tell
you, we have had many wine dinners before,
but this experience was by far the best so far.
Zorba's does such an excellent job of taking
care of us. The waiter is brilliant at knowing
when to approach us and when to back off and
let us enjoy ourselves. At times, it felt like we
were the only one's in the restaurant.
Zorba's is a B.Y.O.B. restaurant, which is quite
frankly, my favorite kind. Restaurant markup
on wine is ridiculous these days. So with that
in mind, I asked everyone to bring a wine that
came from Europe, white or red. If I was
taking score, I would say we had more wines
from France then any other country, especially
southern France, Rhone, etc... It would be a
close run for second between Spain and Italy,
but I think we had a few more Spanish wines
than Italians. We also had two different Greek
wines. One white and one red. I told people
that if they could find a Greek wine, they
would get brownie points for the evening.
Mike, would brought the lone Greek red wine
was given a hard time, mainly by me, over the
taste of his wine. Can you say awful? My
word it was bad! Perhaps that is why there are
not more Greek wines on the market. I kid
with Mike, but the truth is, I was proud of him
for trying!
Then there was this matter of food. The food,
aside from being quite different from your
everyday cuisines, was fantastic. I loved
everything I tried. We ordered a few
appetizers for everyone to share, passing them
around the table along with the wines. There
really was a ton of food and I left stuffed to
the rafters, both with food and wine. After all
of this wonderful food, great wine, yada, yada,
yada...we get the bill. Zorba's does not do
separate checks and most restaurant's don't
these days. The moment of truth arrives and I
look at the bill. Now, how many times have
you been to a wine dinner somewhere that
gives you a three or four course meal and
maybe five wines and cost's a minimum of
$35.00 a person and up? We had all these
great appetizers, twenty different wines all for
just $20.00 a person. Simply incredible!
The experience was wonderful and it is safe to
say that we will be doing this again. Great,
inexpensive fun! I cannot possibly say enough
kind words about the great job Zorba's did for
us. Thank you!
